Rajendra Chandrika to be star attraction
The Enterprise Community Literacy Programme launched the second edition of the Enterprise Premier League last Wednesday at the Enterprise Community Centre.
At the launching, coordinator of the ECLP, Jaigobind Mahabir outlined the format of the T20 competition and disclosed that in this year’s competition each team must field an under-15 player. The event is set for October 31 at the Enterprise ground and the action starts at 08:30hrs.
The village of Enterprise is divided into four zones, with each zone named after a former outstanding cricketer of the community.
Zone A, is from Rail Street to Park Street and includes Self Help. This zone is named after Mr. Jaimangal and Mr. Shaheed. This zone boasts players the caliber of Ameer Habib, Kamesh Yadram, Parmanand and Chetram Budhai, aka Butto. This zone has many young, promising cricketers such as Vickey Persaud,Vivian Albert and Balkissoon.
Zone D is from Fernandes Street to the Cane Cultivation, and it is named after Resheed Ishmeil aka Reds and Mr. Parmanand aka Indian. The performance of this zone this year should be interesting since it will have in its lineup the exciting and dynamic National batsman, Rajendra Chandrika who scored two fifties for the Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) team in the Regional One-Day competition in Jamaica including a top-notch 52 against Guyana.
The winners will take home the championship trophy, donated by Mr. Hardeo Singh, aka Flattie of Pennslyvania, USA and $25,000 donated by the Guyana Beverages Inc.
The second placed team will receive a trophy donated by the Sports Ministry and $15,000 while the loosing semifinalists will each receive $5,000 donated by Enterprise Bronx Group. There will also be several cash incentives and trophies for outstanding individual performances and a special prize for the youth player of the tournament.
The Enterprise Busta Sports Club will provide the gear for this competition while the balls will be provided by Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie. The East Demerara Umpires’ council will provide the umpires.
According to the club, the day’s activity is expected to be watched by leading officials of the Sports Ministry and the GCB.
