Taxi drivers are appealing on law enforcement officials to investigate reports of a young man that has swindled many of them by hiring their vehicles, heading to supermarkets and borrowing money in the process, then escaping without any trace.
According to one of the drivers, Ian Mc Calman, on Wednesday, a young man whom he averaged was between the ages of 17-20, hired him at the car park in proximity to Demico House.
He explained that the passenger requested to be taken to a supermarket (name given), and he did so.
The man left his car, but minutes returned to the vehicle stating that he was short $3,000 to purchase a cake and needed to borrow the money which he would repay when he reached his destination.
Mc Calman added that the young man then told him to move to the exit of the supermarket to collect some of the groceries. However after waiting awhile he noticed the man was nowhere to be seen. Upon enquiring it was eventually determined that he had vanished.
“Other people get fraud too buddy, but they don’t want to report the matter because they shame, I don’t want this to happen to anybody else,” said a frustrated McCalman
