Residents of several East Bank Demerara residential areas who have been complaining about bad roads have some good news.
According to the Eccles/Ramsburg Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC), almost 20 roads have been slated for major upgrades in the coming months.
Areas like the upscale Nandy Park, Republic Park, Bagotstown and Eccles will benefit, says David Sugrim, Overseer of the NDC.
There have been a growing number of complaints by residents, especially those of Republic and Nandy Park, over large craters which have not only been a great inconvenience, but are an eyesore.
“The NDC is mobilizing materials to do some temporary work in the areas but the major works are coming in a few months,” Sugrim assured yesterday.
The temporary work (patching of the holes) could begin in a matter of days, the Overseer said.
He indicated that while the resources of the NDC are limited, the council has already written the Ministry of Public Works for help in 19 streets.
“What we are also encouraging is for residents to collaborate with us. We may have some materials. They may have some means to help us spread the materials on the roadway. We welcome any help and the NDC stands ready to assist.”
Sugrim noted that the Eccles/Ramsburg NDC, like many such entities, has a limited budget to work with.
“We have sought the help to improve some of these roads. We are aware of the bad ones. We were there recently. So yes, we are coming in a few months.”
