The Sanjay’s Jewellery and Citizens Bank Players Championship will be played off this weekend as local golfers gear up for another weekend of rivalry at the Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.
The Sanjay’s Jewellery Medal Play tournament will be contested on Saturday starting at 12:30 hours. This is the second tournament to be sponsored by the Jewellery store this season.
Keen rivalry is expected once again as the number of players participating continues to increase ahead of the premier Guyana Open championships next month.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places with the best net scores as well as Nearest to the Pin. Closing date for Registration is Friday by calling the Club at 220-5660. Bishnarine “Sanjay” Persaud is expected to present the prizes to the outstanding players at the end of the tournament.
On Sunday the Players Championship tournament sponsored by Citizens Bank will showcase the cream of the country’s players who will be vying for a lien on the Players Championship Trophy up for grabs.
There will also be prizes for the second and third place finishers and best gross.
Tee off is at 08:30 hours.
Citizens Bank Chairman Clifford Reis will be in action along with 2009 Guyana Open champion Avinash Persaud, Colin Ming, Patrick Prashad, William Walker, Mike Mangal, Ronald Bulkan, Mark Lashley, Alfred Mentore, Christine Sukhram, Deoram Dinanauth, Rita Heiken, Francois Montour, Albert Russell, Gavin Todd, Dr. Ram Singh, Andre Cummings, Imran Khan, Troy Codogan, Brian Hackett, Mike Gayadin, Chatterpaul Deo, Kashun Bacchus, Mighty Raja, Esau Shamshudin, Hilbert Shields, Mel Sankies, Mohanlall Dinanauth, Avinda Kishore and Muntaz Hanif.
Citizens Bank Managing Director Eton Chester is expected to be on hand to present the prizes at the closing ceremony.
Last weekend the players competed in the Hamson Inc/Regent Household and Electronics tournament last Saturday and the annual MACORP Classic on Sunday.
