A Delta flight out of Guyana, early yesterday, is still to land at the John F Kennedy International Airport.
The aircraft which left the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, is now in Puerto Rico after an elderly passenger died on board.
The flight left Georgetown shortly after 07:00 hours. In transit, the crew announced that someone had died on board. There was no announcement of age, nationality or sex.
The aircraft would normally fly directly to the United States mainland. The death caused it to be diverted to Puerto Rico where it landed at about noon. Up to midnight the passengers were ensconced in the Best Western Hotel in Puerto Rico.
The aircraft had earlier announced that it would not be flying to the United States and that a relief aircraft would not be coming.
The passengers are now likely to arrive in the United States today.
