Returning from a wake on the railway embankment on his motorcycle, CF 5422, Doodnauth Sookraj, 40, of First Field, Cummings Lodge, met his demise Sunday night when he was struck by a white car, HB 3596.
The man was said to be a security guard employed by the United Associate Security Services and attached to the Cyril Potter College of Education located in Turkeyen. The mangled motorcycle and the car were taken to the Sparendaam Police Station.
According to reports, in the vicinity of Industry on the railway embankment, while heading towards Georgetown, Sookraj, the motorcyclist, was turning into “Old Road” when a white car that was overtaking two other vehicles, lost control and hit him.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away. However, according to police sources, a relative of the driver is in police custody even as the driver is yet to be found.
Sister of the deceased, Anne Singh, said that last Monday their mother died and now she has to endure another death in the family. This is too overwhelming to cope with at present, she cried.
“Only this year he take out the motorbike from Courts and now he dead. My husband, mother and now my brother is dead….I want justice for my brother’s death.”
The Sparendaam Police refused to give any information on the accident.
