Deoram Dinanauth secured victory in the MACORP sponsored Medal Play golf tournament on Sunday at the Lusignan golf Club.
Dinanauth (handicap 24), a newcomer to the sport, shot a gross 91 for a net score of 67 in the tournament that attracted over 45 players. Rita Heikens (handicap 31) finished second overall but was first along the ladies scoring a net 68 from a gross 99. Imran Khan, with a gross 76 handicap 6 and net 70, finished in the third spot.
Nearest to the Pin was captured at No 8 pin by Gavin Todd, Imran Khan also had the best gross while Andre Cummings securing longest putt prize.
Brian Hackett, Treasurer of Lusignan Golf Club expressed gratitude to MACORP for sponsoring the tournament for another year.
MACORP Managing Director Jorge Medina, an ardent golfer said that his company will continue its annual sponsorship of the tournament. The company also presented hampers to players and caddie.
A large crowd turned out to witness the tournament including members of the diplomatic corps and staff of MACORP.
Meanwhile, Mike Mangal crushed the opposition in last Saturday’s Hanson Inc. and Regent Household & Electronics golf tournament shooting a gross 74 (7) net 67 round that included several birdies and one eagle.
Second place went to the consistent Avinda Kishore who shot 81 (12) net 69 and in third place was Kishun Bacchus with a gross 85 (14) net 71.
William Walker won nearest to the pin with his first shot of the tournament to the No 8 green, landing it within eight feet of the flag.
Club treasurer Brian Hackett, representing the sponsor, said the two companies were happy to be part of golf in Guyana and to support the club.
Club secretary Walker thanked Hanson Inc. and Regent Household & Electronics and expressed the club’s wish that they would join a group of long term sponsors who are doing so much to help the club promote the sport in Guyana.
