Police are questioning a Linden man in connection with the murders of 51-year-old Wismar farmer, Linden Mc Pherson, and 34-year-old Devon Simpson, who were both shot dead within a nine-day span.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect is a close relative of Mc Pherson’s girlfriend, who was herself detained in connection with his death.
A senior police official said that investigations indicate that the deaths are linked to marijuana trafficking.
A recent press statement said that police suspected that Mc Pherson was involved in the planting of cannabis sativa before he met his demise.
McPherson was found dead on October 4, last, at Seven Miles Ituni road. His body bore two gunshot wounds.
Mc Pherson, who is survived by several children, reportedly had dwelling places at Nottinghamshire, Demerara River, and Victory Valley at Wismar.
He was reportedly last seen heading to his farm.
The body of Devon Simpson, 34, of Kara Kara Linden, was found in a canal separating Sophia and Meadow Brook on October 12. He had been shot at the back of the head.
He was identified by a brother.
Simpson, who has two daughters, aged seven and one, was last seen alive between 05:00 hrs and 06:00 hrs two Sundays ago at his home.
A sister told Kaieteur News that Simpson travelled to Georgetown the following day. According to her, he was wearing some jewellery and also had a cell phone. Relatives were unable to say why he might have been killed.
