A fine half century by opener Satnarine Sahadeo and a five wicket haul by left arm spinner Imran Khan highlighted the latest round of matches in the Salim Khan speed boat service 40-over cricket competition which commenced recently in Wakenaam.
In Zone A, on Sunday at the Maria’s Pleasure cricket ground, Sans Souci defeated the host by 215 runs. Satnarine Sahadeo with 76, Heera Sukram who scored 47 and Mark Smith 27 were the visitors principal scorers as they rattled up 276-9 in 40 overs. Medium pacer Kennard Lewis took 3-55 and leg spinner Ryan Gordon picked up 3-50 for Maria’s Pleasure who were bundled out for 61 in 16 overs in reply. Ganesh Persaud made 21 as Gurnauth Khemraj, Vickram Ramnarine and Sahadeo had two wickets each for Sans Souci.
In another zone A match which was played last Saturday at the same venue, Maria’s Pleasure overcame Sans Souci Jaguars by 6 wickets. The Jaguars batted first and managed 145 all out in 29.2 overs after the game was reduced to 35 overs.
Rashaad Rasheed led with 30 while Moin Khan supported with 26 and Satrohan Shiwanandan made 20. Looknauth Persaud 3-36, Ryan Gordon 2-37, Emmanuel Lewis 3-11 and Khemraj Rampersaud 2-10 bowled well for the home team.
Maria’s Pleasure in their turn at the crease hit off the required total in 19 overs ending on 146 – 4. Persaud returned to top score with 59 (4×4, 4×6) and got support from Leoroyan Ramlakhan 26 and Gordon 19. Moin Khan took 2-35 and Zaheer Mohamed 1-13 for the Jaguars.
In zone B, last Sunday, Noitgedacht went down to Good Success by 6 wickets at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground. Noitgedacht took first strike and were bowled out for 110 in 18 overs. Former Essequibo U-15 player Ahmad Khan made 48 while former Essequibo U-19 spinner Imran Khan bagged 5-20 and pacer Bernard Lewis snared 3-25. Good Success then replied with 111-4 in 13 overs. Khan and Lewis scored 38 and 28 respectively while Ahmad Khan captured 2-28 for the losers.
In another zone B game which was played previously at the same venue, Good Success got the better of Zeelandia by 31 runs. Good Success taking first turn at the crease managed 186 all out off their allotted overs which was reduced to 35 due to players tuning up late.
Samsudeen Mohamed (26) Wazir Khan (23) and Shorab Ali (18) were the principal scorers as Jerry Adams, Navishaul Pooran and Nandcoomar Boodram claimed two wickets apiece. Jerry and Ricardo Adams were the only batsmen that offered resistance with 50 (5×4) and 48 respectively, as Zeelandia fell for 155 in 32 overs in response. Nazeer Mohamed grabbed 3-18, Imran Khan 2-22 and Wazir Khan 2-20 for the Winners.
