Dalton replaces Jones as Frank’s opponent
By Sean Devers
The local boxers scheduled to appear on the Caribbean Fury 2 International Boxing card on November 6 at the Princess Hotel in Guyana yesterday signed their contracts for the Holland Entertainment Promotion’s event.
The signing was done at the Princess Hotel and it was disclosed that Kwasie Jones, who recently defeated world rater Guyanese Howard Eastman will no longer fight Guyanese New York based Rawle Frank since according to promoter Carwyn Holland Jones has been disqualified due to weight problems. “Jones is about 170 pounds and since he seems unlikely to shed about 10 pounds to meet Frank’s 160, we have decided to replace him with Denny Dalton,” Holland told Kaieteur Sport from Venezuela yesterday.
Holland explained that the contracts for the overseas fighters will be signed this week and said that 24-year-old Columbian Olga ‘La Mona’ Julio and Venezuelan Breilor Teran are expected to sign their contracts today.
The feature fight on the card which is also being used to promote Guyana’s fledging tourism industry through extensive International media coverage will see Guyana’s Leon “Hurry-up” Moore, who is also a co-promoter of the card, battling Teran in a 10-round affair.
Guyana’s 28-year-old World female title holder Shondell “Mystery Lady” Alfred will match gloves with Julio in a six-round match-up as she returns to action for the first time since her title fight at the Princess Hotel last month.
Guyanese heavyweight Mitchell Rogers and compatriot Theopholous King will do battle while local boy James Walcott will oppose with Trinidadian Joel McRae in the lightweight category.
The other fights on the seven-match card will see Canadian Richard Reittie tackling Guyanese Mark Murray, and Dominica-based Guyanese Clive Atwell will trading punches with his fellow Guyanese Errol Trotman.
