Guyana’s team that played at the Pan American Cadets Table Tennis (TT) Championships in the Dominican Republic during October 8-10 was beaten in the second round of the Under-13 mixed doubles competition, forcing them out of medal contention.
Guyana’s Jamaal Duff and Caribbean U-13 Table Tennis Champion, Chelsea Edghill were not in the league of Puerto Rico’s Brian Afanador and Gabriella Diaz after both teams set up a clash for advancement in the tournament with first round wins.
In the opening round, Duff and Edghill dismissed El Salvador’s Jaime Castellanos and Emme Arias to move up into the round of 32 while Afanador and Diaz did the same against Haiti’s Marc Anderson Bruno and Dialine Luma.
However, Guyana failed in its bid to advance out of the round of 32 after a lost to Brazil’s Rafael Luiz and Marina Kohatsu. The Puerto Rican pair, Afanador and Diaz, went on to win the U-13 mixed doubles gold medal from Venezuela in the final.
