… Housing’s ‘One Stop Shop’ at Uitvlugt
An estimated 380 families received house lots on Tuesday as the Ministry of Housing took its ‘One Stop Shop’ initiative to Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.
The house lots distribution targets lots available at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
According to a government release, Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali; Permanent Secretary, Emile McGarrell; Chief Executive Officer of Central Housing and Planning Authority, Myrna Pitt; Region Three Chairman, Julius Faerber, were the officials that led the team during the exercise at the community centre. Also included were several banks, private home developers, and the hardware and furniture sectors.
According to Minister Ali, the Tuschen Phase Two development consists of 660 house lots with an estimated 3,000 persons expected to live there. Ali noted that with the construction of new homes, there will be tremendous expansion in the region involving the banking sector and the construction industry. Additionally, there will be more employment opportunities.
So far, Government has invested approximately $2B within the last eight years in Tuschen to foster its development. For the Phase Two aspect, $426M has been expended.
The Minister pointed to the large gathering of applicants that landownership is empowering and many families find security through its acquisition. This has lead to the transformation of lifestyles, similar to nomadic conditions, to comfort and stability.
Regarding the ‘One Stop Shop’ initiative, the housing official explained that it
affords potential home owners the opportunity to save time and gather all necessary information as it relates to loans, insurance and construction of homes.
Ali urged allottees to utilize the services provided particularly information about loans from commercial banks. Referring to the hardship of paying house rent, he posited that it is better to pay a mortgage than a rent.
During Tuesday’s exercise, it was also disclosed that to further expand the housing sector in the Region, the Ministry is focusing on the creation of 1,200 houselots at Zeelugt. It is expected that land preparation will start soon.
