Cyclist in Guyana will this Sunday have an opportunity to pedal for hefty sums of money when the A. Ally and Sons Chain of Stores in Berbice in collaboration with the Flying Aces Cycling Club stage their annual Anniversary cycling race.
This is the 12th year that the event is being held, with this year’s event being specially organized for the company’s 25th Anniversary. This event is said to be the biggest held in Guyana so far and the sponsors have doled out a hefty $500,000 to cover the cost of the event.
The event is open to cyclist throughout Guyana and all the top riders in the Country are expected to journey to the Ancient County to duel for the hefty sums and trophies that have been put up as incentives.
A number of events will be held on the day featuring Racing, Upright, Veterans, juniors, Juveniles, Mountain, BMX and female cyclists. While there will also be special prizes for cyclist from the host club. The feature event which will cover a distance of 46 miles will see the cyclist pedaling off from the company’s store at Corriverton opposite the Springlands police station to finish at the company’s main store and head office at Main and Coopers Lane in New Amsterdam.
The organizers have arranged the events in such a way that there will be something for everybody.
The fist ten cyclists to cross the finishing line will receive prizes ranging from $25,000 to $6,000 with a total purse of $151,000.
The first four juniors will receive incentives ranging from $10,000 to $5,000. The first three veterans will pedal off with monies ranging from $7,000 to $5,000. The Juveniles will cover a distance of 20 miles and will pedal off from Adventure. The first four Juveniles will receive prizes ranging from $7,000 to $4000.
The Female cyclist will cover a distance of 14 miles and will pedal off from the Rose Hall town Arch with the first three finishers collecting monies ranging from $5,000 to $3,000. The fist four cyclists from the Flying Aces Cycling Club will also collect prizes ranging from $10,000 to $4000. There will also be 10 sprint prizes at $2,000 each.
A truck will leave New Amsterdam at 07:00hrs to take cyclist up to the starting point.
At the completion of the main event those on mountain bikes will have an opportunity to strut their stuff with a three lap race around the Town of New Amsterdam. The top four finishers will receive incentives ranging from $10,000 to $5000.
The BMX riders will them have their go with a two lap battle around the town with the top five finishers collecting incentives ranging from $6,000 to $2,500.
The stunt riders will also have an opportunity to show off their wares with a number of stunt competitions including the fastest and longest stunt riders.
All the top finishers apart from their monetary awards will also collect trophies.
The sponsors and the organizers will be at the presentation ceremony which will be held immediately after the completion of the events.
Cyclists are reminded that they must ride in their club colours, barring which they will not be allowed to participate.
