Guyana’s marksmen at the Commonwealth Games, Ransford Goodluck and Mahendra Persaud had to endure what is being said to have been one of the most controversial days in Fullbore shooting but still managed to move one place up the standings to 11th.
According to reports coming out of India, the day started with Guyana shooting 144 with 11 V-Bulls at 900 Yards. During the second detail the conditions got difficult and several of the top teams got bad scores, which they blamed on malfunctioning targets. Some teams were allowed to shoot over. At the end of the day Guyana moved into 11th position with a score of 436 points with 36 V-Bulls, which is 10 off the lead.
Goodluck shot 72-7 and Persaud 72-4 as both men tallied overall 218-18 after the three days. They will be at it again today over 1000 Yards.
Of the regional teams, Guyana is the highest ranked. They are trailed by Trinidad and Tobago, who dropped down to 16th with 418-27. Jamaica is next (17th) with 416-22, Barbados (18th) 407-23, Antigua (19th) 390-15 and Bermuda (20th) 390-9. Twenty one teams are competing.
Heading the list are Australia 446-48, followed by New Zealand 445-45, Canada 444-42, Scotland 443-40, Wales, 442-43, England 442-40, South Africa 442-37, Malaysia 441-47, Guemsey 441-40 and Jersey 436-42.
The individual competition is a tight race with just a few points separating them. Goodluck in 18 and Persaud 25 of the 42 competitors, which is led by Australian James Corbett with 326-37 in comparison to Goodluck’s 319-24 and Persaud’s 314-20.
