Early yesterday morning persons passing the canal separating Meadow Brook from Sophia raised an alarm after spotting the remains of a man in the waterway. The discovery was made at around 06:00 hours.
According to a police reports the body bore a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. The man is said to be of African ancestry with braided hair, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and was clad in a red trunks and pair of blue long pants. The body also bore a tattoo on the upper left forearm in the form of a marijuana leaf with the words ‘Jah Bless’.
Immediately after the discovery the police were summoned to the area and the body removed. The body is currently at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination. Up to press time yesterday no one had come forward to identify the man.
Meanwhile persons in the area said on Saturday night they heard what sounded like a gunshot but it appeared as though nothing untoward had occurred. This newspaper was also told that there was a report of a robbery in the area.
