Dear Editor,
Abuse of powers by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) must be stopped very early, because their actions are putting citizens’ lives at serious risk.
After reading of all the wanted bulletins that were recently issued by the GPF, they had me thinking that the wanted men are the perpetrators of some of the recent murders that were taking place and the GPF must have evidence that could prosecute these men.
In keeping abreast with the news I understood that some of the men are business owners of popular places in Guyana. Adam Harris mentioned in his Sunday column of seeing one of the men at his business place occasionally and what the force just did could also make people stay away from their businesses.
Because of the bulletins some of the wanted men turned themselves in only to be put on bail the very next day. I would like to know if it was a publicity stunt just to calm people and why aren’t they charged and hauled before the court if they had evidence and why issue bulletins for them if they didn’t have any evidence to charge them.
Mr. Editor, from my perspective, if the relatives of some of the murder victims decided to seek revenge, the GPF just made these men that they issued wanted bulletins for seem like the murders and they would be the victims, although none of them are charged.
Most of the killings take place in public and not indoors, and for all the public killings so far I believe that some innocent bystanders got caught in the crossfire and either lost their life or got injured. We have seen the evolving of public killing by phantom squads and sooner or later some relatives of those could or might form a gang and decide to seek justice for their lost ones. They could now go to these men’s business places and go on a killing rampage. Do the GPF really have evidence for the wanted men or are they using them as scapegoats.
