Police have issued an all station bulletin for one of its ranks who disappeared in the midst of investigations into alleged financial improprieties at the headquarters of the C Division, Cove and John.
An official in the division yesterday confirmed that the rank has been absent ever since the probe was launched.
In early August the Finance Clerk at the C Division (East Coast Demerara) Headquarters was placed under close arrest after auditors unearthed major discrepancies to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The clerk who is responsible for the preparation of salaries for ranks in the district among other financial duties could not provide proper explanation for the discoveries unearthed by the auditors.
A source at the C Division Headquarters told Kaieteur News that the auditors discovered that the monies represented payment for Special Constables and salaries of interdicted ranks.
This newspaper was reliably informed that investigators have received advice to institute charges against the finance clerk.
But since the rank cannot be located, the police are contemplating seeking an arrest warrant after they institute the charges.
This recent financial scandal in the force came almost one year after discrepancies of greater proportions were discovered at the Police Finance Office at Eve Leary.
Although several persons were detained and questioned, no one was charged.
