The National Schools’ Swimming, Cycling and Track and Field Championships will soon be here and Giftland OfficeMax has ensured that it registers its role in the event when the company yesterday handed over a quantity of stationery for the event.
Giftland’s contribution is geared toward equipping the Games Secretariat for the 50th edition of the national championships. Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) President, Colin Bynoe expressed gratitude for the support the event has received.
“The items from Giftland will help us do a lot of the administrative work for the championships. We know that we do not have enough, we need a lot more but we are yet grateful to Giftland for what they have done,” Bynoe told the media yesterday.
He indicated that sport is a major part of the Ministry of Education’s vision for children and it is against that background that Giftland was aiding in development. He noted that the Management Committee for the event is trying to attract other major sponsors.
“We are hoping that others will come on board. We have a commemorative magazine where there are open spots for advertising. We are hoping to have this magazine about the 50 years of the championships sold to patrons at the event,” Bynoe informed.
Marketing Executive at Giftland, Compton Bobb congratulated the ministry and GTU on achieving 50 years of competition. He said that the point of the role of sports in education is well received at his organisation and their contribution was a way of giving back.
