The Editor,
I am still hoping that we can obtain a truthful response from the appropriate ministries related to the new swimming pool.
The last statement issued by the Ministry of Culture is clearly not believable.
All we seek is the whole truth. Do we now have building one swimming pool, two contractors?
An explanation from the hierarchy why the contract sum varied greatly from the official estimate and, further, since the official government statement is that ‘Kares Inc’ had the experience of building many pools, it would be helpful to name the size and location of these swimming pools, which apparently gave Kares the nod to obtain the contracts. And of interest, how long the Ministry estimates this prefabricated pool will last in our tropical conditions, and of course, what material is being used.
In my last letter, I reminded the public that the Castellani Swimming Pool, built in 1975, all tiles were made of our local clay and burnt locally.
That pool after so many years has stood the test of time and vindicated the faith of the then administration in being local, not merely talking local.
Even before we hear from the Ministry, in this day and age, a prefabricated pool is a retrograde step, an insult to the swimming fraternity and Guyanese patriots, including those who attended GuyExpo.
