Guyana’s Rifle Shooters soldier on as they hunt medals
Day two of the Commonwealth Fullbore shooting championship saw Guyana still on the hunt. In the pairs over 500yards they dropped one point to be 5 off the lead.
Mahendra Persaud shooting at 300 yds in the pairs competition.
In the individual competition, Ransford Goodluck dropped 1 point and Mahendra Persaud 3. There are still three days of shooting to go and the experienced Guyanese pair will look to get into the medals.
Several problems developed with the electronic targets but all the marksmen had to push on. Goodluck shot 49 points with 4 V-bulls to have an overall score of 97-7, while Persaud shot 50 with 3 for 98-8 overall tally.
This places Guyana in 12th position with 195-15. Trinidad and Tobago have dropped down to 14th after being 9th on the opening day. Norris Gomez (45-2) had 93-5 and Justin Lall (49-4) had 99-10 to see T&T at 192-15.
Canada lead with 199-21, Scotland are second with 199-16, South Africa third 198-20, while the other places are filled by New Zealand, Jersey, England, Northern Ireland, Australia, Malaysia, Wales and Guemsey.
The shooters battle over 600yards today and Guyana will look to continue their climb up the leader board.
