The ‘Golden Jaguars’ will leave Guyana today for Suriname where they will take on the host country, St. Lucia and the Netherlands Antilles in Group C of the Digicel Caribbean Cup (DCC) 2010 at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium from Wednesday.
In their final warm up game at the MSC on Sunday evening against Linden, the Jaguars prevailed 3-2 in an exciting match-up which according to Head Coach Wayne Dover, allowed the Technical staff to pin point a number of areas that can be tightened up.
One such area is finishing, the Jaguars scored all their goals in the first half trough strikes from Walter Moore in the 10th, Devon Millington in the 21st and Dwight Peters in the 25th minute.
Linden responded with efforts of their own in the second half through Travis Waterton with a powerful free kick, Oswald Sancharran connected in the 87th minute. The Lindeners also missed a penalty in the second half.
Despite the result, Dover is of the view that he has the necessary artillery to win Group C of the DCC, Guyana’s first game will be against St. Lucia on Wednesday from 19:00hrs.
The midfield and strike line continues to pose some challenges but Dover believes that they will work things out.
Returning to add shore up the defence will be former National Captain Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard will team up with old time partner and current Captain Howard Lowe, the two were branded the ‘Twin Towers’ for their solid work at the back in the T&T Pro League for quite a number of years.
Also expected back is John Rodrigues and along with Chris Nurse, Walter Moore, Jake Newton, Sean Cameron and Shawn Beveney as the overseas players they will hope to give Guyana the needed potency to win all their games in Suriname.
Under-20 midfielder Kevin Beaton who is based in the USA has been drafted into the 20-man squad for Suriname.
Guyana’s second game on Friday is against the Netherlands Antilles with their final game on Sunday against the host country.
