National Skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan will miss today’s senior inter-county 50-over cricket final at the Guyana National stadium due to personal commitments while Rajendra Chandrika and Veerasammy Permaul will also miss today’s game due to commitments with the HPC team in Barbados.
Defending champions Berbice will battle Demerara, the only unbeaten team in the three-team tournament which also involves Essequibo, from 13:30hrs in the Day/Night match for the El Dorado title and a keen contest is anticipated.
Opener Shemroy Barrington and Jamal Hinckson replaces Sarwan and Chandrika respectively in the Demerara side which will be captained by former West Indies youth team Skipper Leon Johnson.
Off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed is Johnson’s deputy while the Demerara batting will centre round the dependable Test left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Travis Dowlin while Chris Barnwell could open the innings as he did in Essequibo.
Johnson, Steven Jacobs, Derwin Christian and all-rounders Andre Stoll and Kellon Carmichael give the home side a strong batting line up while teenage leg-spinner Amir Khan, Mohamed, Jacobs and Johnson could cause some problems for the Berbicians on what is anticipated to be a slow track.
Stoll and Carmichael could share the new ball with medium pace back-up from the versatile Barnwell.
For Berbice Richard Ramdeen, the only centurion in the competition, will want to continue his good form and along with Sewnarine Chattergoon will want to give Berbcie a good start.
Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Jonathon Foo, Anthony Bramble and Esuan Crandon are all capable of big scores at this level while the lively Keon Joseph should lead the pace attack.
Leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo could cause the most problems for the Demerara batsmen but without Permaul, the Berbice spin back up look innocuous with slow bowler Royston Crandon being his team’s most expensive bowler in both of their matches so far.
