Dear Editor,
Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Priya Manickchand, has said that the gruesome nature of Neesa Lalita Gopaul’s death and her troubled life is a stark reminder that protection of children must never fall by the wayside.
She indicated that since the Agency’s establishment, there have been 3,175 reported cases of child abuse, all of which have been investigated; of this number, 602 have been sexual abuse cases.
Seven hundred children have been placed in safe care, and 198 have been re-integrated with their families.
Miss Minister, one set of numbers is missing in your report, even though the numbers look great.
How many convictions there are for these documented abuses?
Those are the numbers most Guyanese would like to see even if you have to make it a daily report.
When people do not see headlines screaming out at them that Mr./Mrs.John/Jane Doe are convicted this plague will continue to blight Guyana.
The police officer/s who took the complaint to retract Miss Neesa Lalita Gopaul’s case should be fully investigated.
Most Guyanese know police officers are on the take to make reports go away.
Most Guyanese knows police will make it appear as though they are doing their job only to appear in court to throw the prosecutor’s case.
I like most Guyanese believe that the man that was involved with Miss Neesa’s mother have some connection to police at that station.
Please do not let the world read “police can not put case together so perpetrators have to let go”
Please let justice prevail for this child so as to send a clear message to others that society will not tolerate child abuse and killings.
T. King
