Althea Isaacs, 24, of Lot 41 Annandale Housing Scheme was yesterday placed on $75,000 bail, when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge of simple larceny.
It is alleged on September 20, last she received a touch screen cell phone valued $200,000, from an unknown person(s). The phone was stolen from Anthony Singh.
Althea Isaacs, who was represented by attorney at law Pamela DeSantos, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The lawyer in a bail application said that her client had lost a cell phone last April. She stated that the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) had tracked the pin number for the SIM card that was previously owned by her client. She further indicated that her client is unaware of the incident.
Police Prosecutor Lionel Harvey had no objections to bail. The defendant is scheduled to make her next court appearance on November 22.
Also appearing before Magistrate Beharry was Leon George who was charged with simple larceny. It is alleged that between September 18 and September 20, the defendant broke and entered an electronic shop and stole articles valued $1.7 million, property of Michael Stern.
The defendant, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge and made an application for bail. However, Prosecutor Harvey objected to bail given the evidence against the defendant.
Harvey told the court that the defendant has previous convictions and the fingerprints that were taken from the scene of the crime, matched the defendant’s prints.
The Magistrate refused bail and George was remanded to prison. He is to make his next court appearance on November 22.
