Ever since she has begun fighting as a professional boxer, Mandessa Moses has made quite an impression, defeating all comers. She would have had an impeccable record had it not been for a Trinidadian by the name of Wendy Allen who defeated her when the two met in Trinidad and Tobago in her debut bout.
Since that loss Moses has shown immense improvement, defeating Quinda Rogers, Sharon Ward and Margaret ‘Chico’ Walcott while on the redemption trail. Maybe her most definitive and devastating victory was the bout against Alicia Marques. Moses took Marques to boxing school shortly before delivering what was undoubtedly the most vicious left hook delivered by any local fighter for the year. Marques tumbled to the canvass, remained there for the full count and to date has refused to reenter the ring.
Having established her dominance locally, Moses is ready to avenge her only loss and has been given the opportunity this month end when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) stages the ninth edition of the ProAm boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Friday October 29.On the same card, Clive Atwell will attempt to repair the blotch on his record where he managed to secure a draw against Mark Austin on last month’s card. He will match gloves with Cecil Smith in a lightweight bout that is expected to produce similar fireworks. Simeon Hardy will square off with Patrick Boston in a middleweight shindig while in the other bout with an international flair, Mark Austin opposes Barbadian, Revlon Lake in a lightweight bout.
The boxers convene this afternoon for the ritualistic signing of contracts at Abdool and Abdools, the office of GBBC President Peter Abdool, Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown.
Meanwhile, the organizers are awaiting the list of boxers that would comprise the amateur segment of the programme. These names would be released as soon as they are available.
