The Barakat Brothers West Demerara 45-over split innings 12-a-side cricket competition continued over the weekend in West Demerara with six matches.
The highlight of the round was the high-scoring contest at Zeeburg on Sunday between Mc Gill and Windsor Forest Centre in which 515 runs and two centuries were scored.
Doodnauth Dhanraj scored 140 for Windsor Forest while Abdul Razack made 107 for Mc Gill as the competition’s first centuries were scored.
Alliwik Legall, who made 52 for Vergeoegen and Bernard Daw who rattled up 52 for Jasper United registered half centuries while Shurland Wilson grabbed 5-40 for the over 40 Golden Warriors, Javed Shafeek took 6-18 for Vergeoegen and Rajin Chrisamotie had 5-21 for Zeelught to capture the bowling highlights in the latest round of action.
At Zeeburg, Windsor Centre beat Mc Gill by 97 runs. Windsor Forest Centre scored 148-4 in their first 20 overs with Doesh Sukhu (44) and Muneshwar Balgobin (34) and Doodnauth Dhanraj (26*) leading the fight with the bat in the first phase of the innings. Mc Gill in reply reached 86-8 at the end of their first 20 overs with Sudesh Persaud top-scoring with 24. Bowling for Windsor Forest Centre, Avinash Ganesh took 4-39.
When Windsor Forest Centre continued their innings for their last 25-overs, Dhanraj was savage on the Mc Gill bowlers, smashing another 114 runs with 9 sixes and 12 fours as Windsor Forest Centre were eventually all out for 306 in 39.4 overs, leaving Mc Gill 220 to win in 25 overs.
Abdul Razack gave the West Bank team some consolation by scoring an even ton in Mc Gill second 25 overs in losing cause.
At Uitvlugt, Jasper United beat Golden Warriors over-40 by 63 runs. Batting first, Gasper United scored 81-5 in the first 20 overs with Dale Larose making 24 and Bernard Daw 22 not out.
In reply Golden Warriors over 40 started nervously and were 64-8 off their allotted 20 overs as only Oswald Chandle (18), Mark Miller (10) and veteran Abdul Zaman Willie (16*) reaching double figures.
Jasper United then scored 81 all out in 13 overs in the second stage of their innings with Bernard Daw continuing his good form with 52.
Bowling for Warriors over 40, off-spinner Shurland Wilson was the best bowler with 5-30. The over 40 warriors fell for 98 in their second 25 overs despite an unbeaten 25 from Abdul Zaman. Left-arm spinner Daw was Jasper’s most impressive bowler with 4-19 and got support from Joey Quepedure (3-24) to help Jasper United to victory.
At Meten Meer Zorg, Leonora beat Crane by 6 wickets. Crane struggled to 76-7 from their first 20 overs with Devindra Ramdial top scoring with 24.
Leonora replied with 89-4 in their 20 overs before Crane continued their innings and were all out for 90 in 25.2 0vers. Abadie Hussain bowled well to take 4-26 for Leonora who ended at 94-4 in 20.4 overs to win by 6 wickets.
At Zeeburg on Saturday, Parika Salem Warriors beat CI by 6 wickets. CI made 81-3 in their first 20 overs with Imtiaz Hack making 20. Parika replied with 111-4 in their first 20 overs with former national youth left-hander Sase Narine hitting 42 with 4 sixes and 3 fours. He got support from Kevon Boodie who made 36 with 3 sixes and 3 fours.
CI continued their innings and were all out for 142.
Former National youth all-rounder Ryan Hercules who recently returned from a successful season in England bowled intelligently to finish with 4-20. Parika, needing 30 to win in 25 overs, reached 132-4 in 22.2 overs with Hercules scoring 18 not out. Vickesh Dhaniram was CI’s best bowler with 3-34.
On Saturday at Uitvlugt, Independence beat Windsor Forest MYO by 5 wickets. Windsor Forest MYO scored 71-9 in their first 20 overs with Asraf Ali making 17, as Imran Khan (4-17), Samuel Fredericks (2-5) and Shazim Hussain (2-17) all bowled well for Independent B who replied with 82-5 in their first 20 overs with David Mohabir top scoring with 25.
Windsor Forest MYO were all out for 100 with Mohamed Nizamuddeen making 29. Independent B needed to score 19 to win in their 25 overs and they reach the target with 5 wickets to spare.
On Saturday at Vergeoegen, Zeelught beat the host by 28 runs inside the first 20 overs. Zeelught were bowled out in 18.3 overs for 128 after openers Neil Bissesar (24) and Haresh Balkaran (21) put together 51.
Bowling for the host, right-arm medium pacer Javid Shafeek took 6-18 from 6.2 overs. In reply Vergeoegen were bowled out for 100 with Skipper Alliwik Legall batting responsible to score 53 although no other batsman reached double figures. Bowling for Zeelught, Rajin Chrisamotie bowled brilliantly with figures of 5-21 from 8.3 overs.
