The errant driver who drove his surf over the head of 26-year-old Shamlall Mahase last Sunday night had been released on station bail, much to the annoyance of the victim’s relatives. Four days after the Stanleytown Road incident, Mahase is still being monitored on life saving machine in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
As a result of the accident he has suffered a swollen brain and severe internal bleeding.
Since his admittance to the health institution, he had not gained consciousness. He is reportedly in a critical condition.
Shamlall’s relatives told reporters that they are disgruntled with the way the officers at LaGrange Police Station have be handling the matter. “If we in call them they in telling we nothing…since the accident they have not tell us nothing,” said his brother-in-law.
They expressed fear that the driver will leave the jurisdiction after posting bail. “What will happen if he leaves the country… we will be left without receiving justice,” relatives questioned.
This publication was informed by a source close to the investigation that the driver was permitted to leave police custody on Wednesday last, after posing an undisclosed sum station bail.
The white surf number PMM 8197 which was rented from the owner and driven by an alleged drunken driver, slammed into Mahase while he was standing on the Sanleytown Public Road Sunday night last.
