David Rose Special School for the differently-abled had made their mark in reaching out to baby Prince, who is in dire need of a heart surgery.
After learning of the eight-month-old baby’s condition, the school took it upon itself to raise monetary donation to aid in his overseas surgery.
A total of $10,000 was accumulated by students and dedicated teachers and handed over by two students, Veronica Beresford and Akeem Brutus, to the ailing child’s grandmother in one of the classrooms.
A teacher at the institute, Melissa Leacock, told Kaieteur News that she was the person who came up with the idea of the donation.
“After I heard about the child’s condition, I told my headteacher… ‘let us collect money from the students to help with his surgery’”.
The teachers are also planning to approach their respective churches and other organizations for contribution to assist the Prince.
Nicola Jackson, the mother of the child that requires urgent heart surgery, met with the Indian heart specialist who should be performing the surgery on the baby earlier in the week.
