Vryman’s Erven Secondary School pounded out a 5-1 drubbing over old rival Berbice High School when play in the Garret Cup Inter School Football competition continued recently with one game at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam.
The winners were led to the rampage by Steffon Boucher with a helmet-trick while Gladwin Grant supported with one. Berbice High School consolation strike came off the booth of Dequan Williams.
The other scheduled game did not come off because Orealla failed to travel out of the Corentyne River citing time constraints for their encounter with the Berbice Educational Institute. The organisers will make a decision in the near future as to the status of the game.
The competition will continue on Monday with two more matches at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground with Group D action. In the scheduled games J.C Chandisingh will match skills with New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School and in the second game Corentyne Comprehensive will tangle with Tutorial Academy Secondary School.
16 schools are participating in the competition which will see the winner taking home the Garrett Cup and medals, while the runner up will be presented with a trophy. The outstanding players will be presented with trophies, medals and other memorabilia.
The competition is being coordinated by Vibert Garrett.
