Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) yesterday handed over in excess of $2.5M to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for the staging of its 2010 El-Dorado Inter-County 50-Over Round Robin Competition that commences on Saturday at Blairmont.
The competition which is being held to select Guyana’s national limited overs team for the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional tournament will feature Essequibo, Berbice and Demerara in a Round Robin Playoff.
Essequibo will play Berbice on the opening day at Blairmont while Berbice take on Demerara at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground the following day. Demerara and Essequibo play in Wakenaam on October 6 with the final at the National Stadium on October 9.
DDL’s El-Dorado Brand Manager, Maria Munroe said that the company has been sponsoring the event for over 12 years and they want to maintain that commitment to the GCB. Munroe said that the players use the tournament for national selection.
“We made a commitment to the GCB and we want to uphold that,” Munroe said, adding that they will continue to support local cricket. Munroe said that the sponsorship deal is exclusive as the name of the competition suggests.
GCB President, Chetram Singh thanked DDL for their support, stating that it is the kind of contribution to the sport that helps it succeed. Singh applauded the company’s enduring relationship with the sport and the Cricket Board.
