Nicole Jackson, the woman whose eight-month-old baby requires urgent surgery, and other family members yesterday met with the Indian heart specialist who should be performing surgery on the baby.
The woman claimed that Dr Viresh Mahajan, the specialist, told her that the hole in the baby’s heart is “very big” and expands as the days go by.
According to Jackson, Dr Mahajan told her the surgery should have been done “like yesterday”. However, the family has not raised the money as yet but the doctor has given Jackson 90 per cent assurance that her child, who is presently hospitalised, would be alive and healthy once he has undergone surgery.
Jackson said that the government, through the Ministry of Health, has fulfilled its promise.
According to Jackson, an additional US$500 will cover the cost of the ailing child’s surgery. However, funds are still to be raised for her ticket and visa to take Prince to India.
Other than the government’s contribution, the woman said she collected a further $181,000 from members of the public.
Jackson said she only has to raise a remaining US$5,000 to cover all other expenses.
Eight-month-old Kenneth Prince of 74 Supply, Mahaica, East Coast of Demerara, is currently suffering from an advanced heart condition. The infant was diagnosed with Congenital Cyanotic heart disease, some four months ago.
An echocardiography done by a Cardiologist at the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) suggested Tetralogy of Fallot and an urgent surgical intervention is recommended.
Persons interested in making a contribution of any amount can contact Jackson on telephone numbers 622-7518 or 228-5733 or make a direct contribution to Republic Bank account # 2179307.
