More drug mules remanded
Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday refused bail to two persons who were accused of trafficking in narcotics.
First to be charged was, Carlotta Roberts, who was accused of having in her possession 3.4 grams of cocaine on September 24, at Lot 190, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Attorney at law, Peter Hugh, in a bail application told the court that his client has an unblemished record.
The lawyer further told the court that other persons were at the house when the police carried out a search.
“My worship other persons were there….the drugs could have belonged to anyone,” argued the lawyer.
Special Prosecutor for Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, Oswald Massiah, told the court that even though other persons were at the residence the substance was found in her possession.
The prosecutor said that the woman admitted to the ranks that someone had given her the drugs to sell. The Magistrate denied bail.
The second defendant, Andre Archer, was accused of having in his possession 36 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in narcotics. His lawyer, Adrian Thompson, in a bail application told the court that he knows the process on drug matters. Thompson said that his client was gainfully employed as a welder and he has six children to maintain.
According to the lawyer, his client was visiting the house when the police came and that he had no knowledge of the drugs.
However, Prosecutor Massiah gave the court a different version of events. The prosecutor said that not only was Archer in possession of the drugs, he was also the supplier.
The prosecutor asked for bail to be denied and date for statements to be set.
That application was granted by the Magistrate. Archer is now expected to make his second court appearance on Friday.
