Miss Candacie Williams representing the community of Batavia, Cuyuni River, was crowned Lower Mazaruni Region Seven Miss Amerindian Heritage Queen 2010 at an extremely competitive and well organised pageant.
The first runner-up was Shanice Cornelius, of Karrau; the second runner up was Natoya Culpepper of River’s View; and third runner-up, Lovern Simmons.
Williams also got the top prize for the Best Heritage Costume; Miss Intelligence prize and the Best Cocktail gown.
Lovern Simmons won the Best Talent; and Gleary Williams, Best Smile.
The other contestants were Sheena Cream from Dogg Point, Ronella Joseph from Karrau and Alicia Fredericks from Agatash.
The event was hosted at the Batavia Arian Island, Cuyuni River, on Sunday.
It was part of the programme of activities to observe Amerindian Heritage Day.
Hundreds were present to witness also the canoeing, swimming, archery and cultural presentation.
The standard and quality of activities organised in the Lower Mazaruni area to commemorate Amerindian Heritage month continue to get better each year, said the spectators.
This beauty pageant in the lower Mazaruni area has already stamped its valued significance in the Bartica sector with the emergence of last year’s 2009 Lower Mazaruni Amerindian Heritage Queen, Annice Hicks, carting off this year’s Miss Regatta 2010 title.
It is now anticipated that come next year each location will be hosting a preliminary event of such nature towards this grand pageant finals.
The sponsors included Guyana Mine Fields, Bartica Regatta Committee, Jet and Trailers Mining, Hopkinson Mining, B and M Mining, Royo’s Mining, Kamal’s 2k Gift Shoppe, PJ’s Classic Styles, Nizam Kassim and Sons Grocery and Thomas Mining.
