Following a successful two-week stint at the South Florida Aquatic Club where she made a lasting impression on the minds of the coaches, top Junior Guyanese swimmer Jessica Stephenson is heading to India to represent her country at the Commonwealth Games.
Whilst there, the 15 year-old Stephenson, confident and plain spoken, worked with six-time Olympic coach Michael Lohberg, one of the world’s most celebrated swim coaches and two-time Olympian Vlad Polyakov.
The Commonwealth Games in India will be held from October 3-14 and Stephenson ensured that she will be in tip top shape by spending two weeks with SOFLO coaches and swimmers at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.
She won three gold medals at this year’s Junior CARIFTA Games and worked extensively with Lohberg, who is widely considered one of the top breaststroke coaches in the world.
Stephenson will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events in New Delhi, India.
Stephenson commented on her experience at Coral spring: “Although the time I spent at Coral Springs was short, the experience was fantastic. To get in the pool each day with Olympians and World Champions inspired me to work even harder to ensure that in the not too distant future, I will be up there with them.
“Coach Lohberg was so generous in helping me and his love of swimming and his swimmers was so evident, I felt privileged to have been there with them,” she said.
