– victim, suspect had several court disputes
By Latoya Giles
Years of feuding between two women ended tragically yesterday after one of them was knifed to death by her reputed husband’s former paramour.
Popular market vendor Letuica Rodriguez 31, called “Mama” of Breda Street Albouystown, was stabbed in the chest shortly after 20:30 hrs during a brawl near the Stabroek Market.
She died shortly after.
Kaieteur News was told that the incident occurred shortly after a young man approached Rodriguez and started arguing with her.
An eyewitness said that the vendor was about to turn away when another woman approached and stabbed her.
Some vendors speculated that the suspect might have used the young man as a diversion.
Rodriquez was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where she died while receiving medical attention.
Hospital sources disclosed that the woman suffered tremendous internal bleeding. The source explained that the wound punctured her heart.
At the GPHC, security officers struggled to control the woman’s relatives who became hysterical after learning about her death.
The woman’s sister Anastasia Gordon said that the suspect had threatened her sister only on Saturday.
“My sister does sell at the market and she come there on Saturday …tell meh sister I gun kill ya”.
The woman explained that her sister shared a relationship with the suspect’s ‘child mother’ for the past five years.
According to Gordon, on Saturday, after the threat was made, her sister went to the Brickdam Police Station to make a report.
However, according to the sister, the officers at the station refused to take the report and allegedly told Rodriquez that she was “coming too steady.”
The woman explained that her sister and the suspect have had numerous disputes that ended at the courts.
“She always tormenting my sister…..plenty time they does go to court, only last month they get place pon a bond,” the distraught sister cried. Gordon described the suspect as the aggressor.
Up to press time the suspect was still at large.
The man at the center of the dispute is presently incarcerated.
