Mother pleads for reward to be issued for daughter’s killer

The mother of slain bank employee Sheema Mangar is pleading with the authorities to post a reward that could encourage persons to provide information on her daughter’s killer(s).
Radica Thakoor told Kaieteur News that she is hoping that either the Demerara Bank Limited or the police issue the reward.
She also expressed disappointment that the persons who were detained have been released.
According to Ms. Thakoor, she fears that the suspects may try to flee the country if there is any indication that police are close to solving the case.
Some police sources also feel that a reward will encourage reluctant eyewitnesses to come forward.
One source suggested that since the police top brass have indicated that the reward for the capture of Tyrone `Cobra’ Rowe will not be paid out, that sum could be put up for the capture of Mangar’s killers.
At present, police are trying to contact an informant who claimed that the man who was driving the car under which the fabric was found had admitted to robbing and running over Mangar.
According to this information, the suspect had attempted to sell the stolen phone.
Meanwhile, a police official said that investigators are still to conduct some forensic tests on the piece of fabric that they retrieved from under a car.

According to the official, the Force has to acquire the blood-tracing chemical, luminol, from overseas.
The luminol will emit a bright blue colour in a darkened room once there is blood on the material.
Investigators will also try to ascertain whether the fabric they retrieved is similar to the material from Mangar’s uniform.
But the investigators will also need to establish, via DNA tests, that the blood is Mangar’s.
Last Friday, Mangar’s mother gave detectives a uniform similar to the one that her daughter was wearing when she was robbed and killed.
The torn and bloodstained clothing the victim was wearing was apparently discarded after she was hospitalised.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene had told reporters that forensic tests on the piece of fabric will be conducted at the Force’s Forensic Laboratory.
Police sources also confirmed yesterday that investigators are to have tests conducted on a strand of hair that was recovered from another vehicle.
Sheema Mangar was waiting for transportation near the junction of North Road and Camp Street three Fridays ago when a man snatched her phone.
The thief then entered a silver-grey car and ran Mangar over when she stood in front of the vehicle in an attempt to retrieve her stolen phone.
