The Garrett Cup Inter School Football competition is on in the Ancient County with some 16 schools participating.
The competition which is open to secondary schools in Region 6 began on September 13, with the schools being divided into three zones namely Upper Corentyne, Central Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje.
The competition is expected to continue today with two matches at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam beginning at 12:00 hrs. In the matches scheduled Berbice High School will match skills with old nemesis Vryman’s Secondary, while in the other game Orealla, travelling out of the Corentyne River, will try to topple favourites Berbice Educational Institute.
Results in the games played so far shows Skeldon Line Path Secondary gaining a walk over from Siparuta of the Corentyne River.
Skeldon High also won by a walk Over from Lower Corentyne Secondary. Central Corentyne Secondary defeated Manchester Secondary 1-0, while the walk over trend continued with Winifred Gaskin Secondary getting the nod over Canje Secondary School.
The winning team and players will be presented with a trophy and medals. While the runner up will be presented with a trophy and outstanding players will be receive trophies, medals and other memorabilia. The competition is being coordinated by Vibert Garrett.
