Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop sitting at the Albion Magistrate’s Court sentenced Harrinarine Lucknauth, called Dirty Harry, 38, to 21 days in jail after he was found guilty of beating and threatening to kill his elderly mother on August 22nd, because she refused to give him money to buy drugs.
Doris Motee, 68, told the court that her son does not work and is in the habit of demanding money from her to fulfill his craving habit. Whenever she cannot fulfill his desires he would beat her and threaten to burn the house down.
Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, told the court that around 05:00 hrs on the day in question, the drug addict woke his elderly mother and demanded money from her to buy drugs.
When the woman did not give in to his demand, Lucknauth took a piece of wood and chased his mother around the community until she was rescued by neighbours.
When the woman returned home, she was pounced upon again by the accused who threatened to kill her if his demand was not met. The woman, being afraid for her life, gave in to the demands. She then reported the matter to the police and Lucknauth was arrested and charged.
The Magistrate, before sentencing the culprit reminded him of his duty to ‘Honour his mother and father’.
