NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (C.C.C.C.) has donated $200,000 to the Pakistan Disaster Relief Fund.
President of the CCCC, Imran Hamid handed over a cheque last week to a Berbice representative of the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG).
Mr. Hamid described the devastating flood as one of the worst natural disasters to hit humanity and his members felt compelled to contribute to the Fund.
The handing over ceremony was held at the office of the Region Six Democratic Council.
Berbice representative of Central Islamic Organization of Guyana Sheik Abdul Hafeeze said all the funds collected in Guyana should be sent off later this week.
A member of the CIOG’s head office in Georgetown Sheik Zakir Khan explained that several religious and non-religious organizations came together to raise some $23 million within one month using telethons and other means.
