Robberies on the rise in Republic Park

Dear Editor,
I bring to your attention a problem that keeps reoccurring in Republic Park Phase 1 Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara.
There are several persons who have been robbed on their way to or from work, especially the housekeepers, gardeners and persons who do not own a vehicle and cannot afford a taxi fare.
These incidents take place during the day and night, close to the Castle. However, at night it is worse because of the overgrown bushes and no lights.
The persons who carry out these acts hide behind the different monuments that have be erected on the government reserves opposite the said castle.
As a concern citizen I am asking the Ministry of Public Works, GPL, and the Guyana Police Force to address the different areas that contribute to persons being victimized in such a manner, by breaking down the structures, provide road lights and if possible the police can patrol the area between 7am and 10am, and from 3pm to 7pm, when the robberies occur.
If possible, have police presence at the junction between the short cut and Castle, which in my opinion will be of great help to the persons who have been affected.
