Nevisian Alexander Mills, of Farms Estate, and Guyanese Rannel Carmichael, of Rawlins Village, have both been arrested and charged for burglary and larceny, according to the St. Kitts-Nevis Observer.
After a series of break-ins that occurred in Farms, and other places in Nevis over a three-month period, officers of the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were able to apprehend the persons they believe are responsible.
They made the arrest on September 21, after a response to a home burglary at Jones Estate.
It was reported that the two men broke into a house and tried to use a vehicle on the property to facilitate their escape. Upon loading the items into the vehicle, the suspects ascertained that the vehicle wouldn’t start. They then left, and upon their return to the vehicle, police officers who were in the vicinity, apprehended them.
During a search, copies of the house keys were found in one of the suspects’ pocket.
The perpetrators confessed to the police officers regarding the places from which they stole, and the persons to whom they sold the items. Currently, there are a number of persons in custody for purchasing stolen items. Inquires were made by the police, which led to the recovery of the items.
Earlier in the week, police recovered a number of stolen items in various locations throughout Nevis. The items included desktop computers, gardening tools, air conditioning units, kitchen appliances, and other household items.
At the bail hearing, Magistrate Jasmine Clarke denied both men bail, and scheduled their trial for Tuesday.
Inspector Mitchell told The Observer that police officers are working on improving safety on Nevis through stepping up their patrols, and enhancing neighbourhood watch groups, among other things.
“We want to thank the public for the information that we have received,” stated Inspector Mitchell.
He explained that members of the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will be steadfast, and that officers will not tire in respect to keeping the island safe for its inhabitants.
