Bartica, East Bank, South and Central Essequibo recorded victories as the Essequibo Cricket Board Busta 50 overs festival continued recently with matches in zone A and B.
On Saturday last in zone B at the Wakenaam Community Center ground, Bartica defeated Leguan by 95 runs. Bartica batted first on a track with preparation moisture and scored 216 all out in 38.2 overs after the game was reduced to 40 overs. Opener Robin Narine top scored with 71 (2×4, 7×6) and Yusuf Khan made 29 (3×4, 1×6). Offspinner Tulsieram Permnauth took 3-20 and there were two wickets each for Huckumchan Savitir and Trevor Whyte.
Leguan, in their turn at the crease were bowled out 121 in 31 overs. Premnauth returned to hit 28 (5×4) and Muneshwar Jattan contributed 26 (3×4) as left arm spinner Robert Moore grabbed 3-28, Ivelaw Murray 3-22 and Teon Vanderhyden 2-1 for the victors.
On Friday at Vergenoegen on the East Bank of Essequibo the host overcame Bartica by 76 runs. In a game which was reduced to 40 overs, the host batted first and made 149 all out in 35.5 overs. Kevon Boodie led with 51 (2×4,4×6) and Kenworth Smith made an unbeaten 39 as medium pacer Sherwin Murray snared 3-19, Ivelaw Murray 2-33 and Teon Vanderhyden 2-6 for Bartica who were routed for 73 in 20 overs. Trevon Garraway picked up 3-12 while Edwin Burnette took 3-15 and Jason Heyliger 2-10.
In zone A, South defeated North Essequibo on Saturday at Anna Regina by 5 wickets. North took first strike and were skittled out for 100 in 27.1 overs. Keron Sewnarine made 26 and C. Budram 19 as Dillon Heyliger, Rohan Ramdass and Rovin Dusraj bagged two wickets each.
South, in reply, encountered a few nervous moments before they eventually won the battle in 25 overs, ending on 101-5. Heyliger top scored with 30 not out (2×4) while Norman Federicks supported with 29 (2×4, 1×4) and Floyd Henry 19. Mark Tyrell captured 2-29 in a losing cause for North.
On Thursday at Anna Regina Central got the better of North Essequibo by 46 runs. Balchan Shivamber with 46 (4×6, 3×7) and Rovindra Parsram who made 33 (1×4,1×6) led central to 186 all out in 39 overs Keron Sewnarine (3-11) and Vishwannauth (3-42) were the main wickets takers for North who in response scored 140 before they were all out in 37 overs, Latchman Rohit and Herry Green bagged three wickets each for the winners.
