Expectant mothers at the Maternity Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) say that they are in total discomfort because they are left with no other choice than to share the ward with a woman who is said to be a destitute and is also a patient at the institution.
Yesterday morning some patients walked out of the ward to avoid what they said was the unpleasant odour that the woman brought.
The patients said that the woman soiled herself and was awaiting the nurses. One patient said that she does not know how long the woman has been in the hospital but when she was admitted, on Monday, the woman was already there.
Patients claim that this situation tends to make them feel sicker than they really are. According to them, this is because their symptoms include vomiting and the stench triggers the “bad feelings.”
The nurses said they have no control over who is admitted to the hospital since discrimination is not allowed in the hospital. “If we ain’t take she in who gon do it?”
A few of the patients said that they will be going to another hospital.
