It was huge earlier this year and now it proposes to be even bigger with new entertainment group Roc Nation planning to rock the Cliff Anderson Sport Hall on October 9 with a night of celebrity basketball that has been justly themed “The Road to the IGG”.
The Inter-Guiana Games’ (IGG) basketball tournament will be held in Guyana this year and Roc Nation thought it was best to usher in the international event with Celebrity Affair that will make its second appearance at the country’s premier indoor venue.
The first celebrity basketball event at the Sports Hall was a huge success and this event promises to be even bigger with corporate benevolence rolling in from Giftland OfficeMax, which handed over its sponsorship cheque to the Roc Nation group yesterday.
One of the members of the entertainment group, Aubrey Smith, told Kaieteur Sport at the Water Street office of Giftland that the event will feature funny, competitive and entertaining basketball from some of the country’s most renowned personalities.
Smith related that the event is another Fund Raiser and apart from Giftland it is expected to get a lot of corporate support from the popular companies including Hits and Jams Television (HJTV) and a few others that usually contribute to such mega events. “We want to have a mixture of sport, entertainment and corporate personalities at the Sports Hall doing their thing on the court.
This will be different from what you have seen in the past,” Smith assured in the presence of other Roc Nation members yesterday.
Giftland’s Marketing Executive, Compton Babb said that the company remains committed to its vision to support local sports in ways that can help sports develop.
He said that Giftland has a lot of interest in playing a leading role in national sports development.
Four games are scheduled for the night with the IGG team coming up against Pepsi Sonics and ‘a battle of the Banks’ continuing its perennial grudge with Scotia Bank taking on Republic Bank in another entertaining scorcher amid the corporate giants game.
Digicel is expected to battle Giftland OfficeMax in the corporate giants’ game before the feature event that includes some of Guyana’s leading sports personalities and entertainers combining on two mix teams for an exciting closure to an entertaining night.
