Dear Editor,
I am not asking, but rather I am begging the Minister of Education and the Regional Education officials of Region Six to send some furniture to the Vryman’s Erven and Overwinning schools.
Dozens of students were transferred from the Vryman’s Erven Annex School (Trinity Street Primary Tops) on the first day of school, but the school has no additional seating accommodation. Please, in this education month which speaks about child-friendly classrooms and such, let’s make our children comfortable.
Right now, children are seated three in a bench and are clustered. How can learning take place? I heard there are 200 children standing every day at the Overwinning school where the situation is dire.
We are turning down cupboards to be used as desks just to cushion the harsh effects of furniture shortage. Students are standing up and writing with their books placed on window sills. They are also complaining. Please help us.
