Dear Editor,
Nothing hides for any length of time in GT. So it is foolhardy when persons try to ‘cock’ the work they are in-trusted with.
It is alleged, by persons from the area, that a Guyanese contracting firm working along with a Trinidadian Company installed conductor casings for a well at Parfait Harmony to a depth of not more than 25 feet when 250 to 300 feet is the recommended depth that the conductor casing should be installed. If this is true then the Guyanese public has been short changed once again. Would the companies care to comment?
The Government of Guyana through its agency, GWI recently supervised the drilling of a well in Amelia’s Ward Linden to a depth of approximately 180 ft (maybe shallower) for approximately $85 million (US$425,000). This amounts to US$2,361 per foot.
Can someone tell this nation where in the world the cost to drill a ten-inch diameter water well with standard material, reache these astronomical amounts? Perhaps the IDB can help here, since they fund numerous water projects around the world including many in Guyana.
