Sep 24, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
Next year is the most important election in the life of a generation and those who are clogging up space under the pretense that they care about the oppressed voters don’t care two hoots.
Tony Jones’ letter, “The PNCR leadership appears detached and most times dispirited” (Kaieteur News 23/9/2010), calling people yard-fowls and insulting the womenfolk exposes a man who is devious.
This letter was in our email forum and Tony didn’t get the response he wanted and must have decided he will carry his sorry tale to the media. Permit me to join him here; these chaps behaving as though poor people up for grabs and they got to get in on the pickings.
Tony Jones is no concerned Guyanese. Here’s the man’s problem: he wanted the members of the North America PNC to make him leader of the group and when he was told he had to run for the position like everyone else he refused and started behaving sour.
Now he is griping all over the place without telling the truth. These chaps are asking for democracy in the party and when democracy doesn’t give them what they want they cry foul. They don’t want the voice of the people to be heard. They want to be emperors and generals to dictate to the people.
Tony said, “gone are the best strategists and thinkers – the party’s intelligentsia has been replaced by far too many females with less than stellar records of political accomplishment.” His choice of the party’s intelligentsia has accomplished nothing for the party. If they can stop this long enough to use their brains and do party work then more of them will accomplish something and be in the leadership. Women have always been the party’s backbone.
There are a set of names Tony called who served in the PNC leadership and he wants to know what’s happening now. These are men and women of substance who understood team play, organisational structure, knew their place in it and worked where their strengths were to deliver the goods to the party.
Not so with this new band. Any politician of the calibre he named observing this gutter politics would want nothing to do with this crass crew. These chaps can only see themselves as relevant when they become top-dog when in real life only one top dog holds the seat at a time.
The only people propping their sagging egos are their loved ones, either out of sympathy or forbearance.
A leader is as strong as the team and if the crew is messing up then good riddance to them and give another crew a chance.
The pettiness of these big men knows no limits. Some hate Robert Corbin because they went to university before him, they are teaching at the university, they had a middleclass upbringing and he did not.
They know that I am no ‘Corbinite’ but you have to give jack his jacket. Robert Corbin has an army of faithful. PNC members like Corbin and you got to respect that.
People like leaders who can ground with them and respect them. They hate people who want to dictate to them and spend their time ridiculing and looking down on them – that is the problem with these disgruntled chaps.
