Denise Hilliman, a mother of five who was charged with feloniously wounding her reputed husband when she doused him with hot oil, has once again found herself in hot water.
Hilliman was yesterday slapped with a single count of unlawful wounding and one count of simple larceny.
The allegation is that Hilliman on March 12, last, at Camp Street, stole one shoulder bag belonging to Lydia Basdeo, containing articles valued at $271,500.
Another charge read that Hilliman on March 16, last, unlawfully wounded Sophia Shepherd with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
She was not required to plead since both charges were indictable. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail being granted.
The court was told that Lydia Basdeo was at the City Mall, having lunch, when Hilliman allegedly picked up her handbag. The prosecutor stated that Hilliman was caught perpetrating the act on surveillance camera. Telford explained that in relation to the wounding charge, Hilliman went into the Acme Store on Regent Street, and Shepherd, who is a security guard there, recognized her as a shop lifter.
He said that the security guard began closely looking at her, and based on Hilliman’s conduct, she was asked to leave the store.
The court was told that Hilliman left the store, but only to return minutes later with a knife.
A heated argument ensued between the parties and Hilliman allegedly slashed Shepherd to the hand.
Telford asked the court not to consider bail, since Hilliman is a known character who has several matters of a similar nature in various courts.
The prosecutor said that the woman is wanted at the Sparendaam Police Station, on an arrest warrant.
When given a chance by the magistrate, Hilliman said that the two charges are “trumped up” by the police. Hilliman was adamant that she was never “hiding” from the police. However the prosecutor interjected and stated that Hilliman was indeed hiding and the police only found her after they raided a house in which she was hiding.
The magistrate remanded the woman and she is expected to make her next court appearance on September 28.
