Dem boys vex. Dem boys seh Uncle Adam getting too cockish. Dem boys seh that fame get to he head. Either that or he smoking that thing that does cause you to feel that you can fly to the moon.
Since his column last Sunday he has been getting the cold shoulder within the press room. Even Glenn vex with he how he put down dem other boys. Some people smiling with he, but behind he back they annoyed with what he wrote in his column last Sunday.
Dem seh he big up he self too much.
Everyone in this life is unique. Everyone is special. There is only one Uncle Adam and only one Glenn. Guyana may need more Glenns, but we are not sure whether they would need more Uncle Adams, not after what he wrote last Sunday when he said that while he is not getting any younger no one is willing to step up.
Dem boys want him to step down and then he will know whether there is no one to step up. They have plenty of persons willing to take over, just like they have plenty of persons waiting in the wing to take over when Bharrat step down.
Every man is unique but no one is irreplaceable. When Bharrat gone somebody gun take he seat, and they gun do better. When Adam decide is time to take a rest, he does not have to bother about who will step up. There will be many others who will step up.
Uncle Adam is good but he is not irreplaceable or indispensable. Dem boys admit that Uncle Adam is the best editor in Guyana. He is also the best reporter in Guyana. The man is good, he has class, he can produce more work in one night than most others produce in a week. He knows how to follow a lead and knows when to pursue.
He is also good at detecting a false lead. He cannot be denied his position as the best in Guyana. He is the best. But he is not irreplaceable or indispensable.
That is what dem boys want he fuh know and that is why certain people giving him the cold shoulder in the press room. Respect is due to him, but he must not feel that no one can fill his chair. In fact they have plenty of them waiting for him to go through the door so that they can get into his seat.
This is why some people get annoyed when he make out as if he alone does edit the Waterfall paper. Dem boys say that he just like that leader who likes to take all the credit. They want to remind Uncle Adam that he is no superman and that in fact he gets a lot of help.
They want to let him know that the newspaper has three editors. They want him to know that Kaieteur News is a daily newspaper and hits the streets everyday. They want to let him know that a week has seven days and three days of that week Uncle Adam does edit, three days Nigel does edit and on Sundays Dale does edit. So is not one man that doing all the work.
They also want he to know that he just return from six weeks leave and during that time, the newspaper was still being produced and edited.
So he must not feel that goat bite dem other fellow in here.
Dem boys respect he experience. They respect the fact that he edit three newspapers in Guyana. They respect his ability. But they asking that he not dis them by pretending that he ain’t have nobody to succeed him.
They have dedicated the following poem to him:
Indispensable
(Author unknown)
When you are feeling so important
When your ego is in bloom
When you simply take for granted
You’re the wisest in the room
When you feel that your absence
Would leave a great big hole
Just follow these instructions
They will humble any soul
Take a bucket filled with water
Put your hand in to the wrist
Pull it out, the hole remaining
Is how much you will be missed.
