A couple from Switzerland, travelling around the world on their mobile home called ‘Pepamobile’, is currently visiting Guyana.
Bruno and Renate Furer who have visited 50 countries to date (including countries in Africa and Europe) since their epic journey begin ten years ago, came to Guyana through neighbouring Suriname on Monday last, and plan to journey to Brazil via the Georgetown-Lethem trail.
The first round saw them passing through all the countries in Europe and then some countries in Africa.
They have so far visited ten countries on the South American continent including Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, French Guiana and Suriname.
They decided to take this trip to know more about the world, and to meet and experience other people’s culture and way of life, and said through their journey they have met some great families.
Bruno Furer said for them it is “just our life and after ten years it becomes just a normal life to meet new people every day and don’t know where you are going sleep at night.”
He said the people always say that the world is very dangerous but so far their expedition has been safe for them, noting “to find food and water can sometimes be difficult”.
The adventurous Swiss couple, who has been married for 26 years, recalled that one of the most unforgettable places so far has been Antarctica where there is abundant animal life and awe-inspiring nature.
The Furers said they learnt about Guyana through the internet, and they knew little about the country before coming, but so far find they find the people warm and friendly and the environment relaxing.
They have met with the Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh who enlightened them about ‘Destination Guyana’ tourism offerings, and provided them with tourism packages to help guide them during their visit here.
While in Guyana, they plan to explore the country’s unique landscape and wildlife and visit several places including Guyana’s premier tourist attraction, the majestic Kaieteur Falls and tour the capital city, Georgetown.
